Overview
The area around Leonidio has many gorges, most of which are little known, but very interesting, with unusual and profuse plants. The Daphona gorge is one of the most interesting. Our trek begins at the ninth kilometer of the main road which connects Leonidion to Kosma, at the small spring , locally referred to as the Hunters’ Spring, below the monastery of Elona ravine.
We walk into the gorge of Elona, with its tall plane trees and laurel bushes, and its unusual rock formations, sculptured by the torrent rapids. After a challenging, but rewarding, 4-hour descent, we arrive back in Leonidion.
