The Stone Strata

Overview

We set off from the antique steamroller by main bridge over the Daphnona river and climb up the hill to the small church of the Prophet Elias. Then, we head east, passing along the way, an old limekiln, a tower made of rough boulders and a cistern, which locals refer to as “The Tub”.

About an hour later, we get to the Road of Stones. From here, we embark on a captivating, but challenging, one-hour descent to the Stone Strata, in an area locally known as Marathias. A half-hour walk along the main road brings us back into Leonidio.
